In the bustling heart of Amsterdam, behind the Royal Palace, you’ll find W Amsterdam. The site is part of W Hotels Worldwide, Marriott International. The hotel is split over the former Government Office for Money and Telecommunications (Rijkskantoorgebouw voor Geld en Telefonie), which opened its doors as Exchange in 2015, and the old KAS BANK building.

Each W hotel is based on the same DNA blueprint, but Hotel W also respects the identity of the country in which it is located, reflecting this identity in its design. In this case, visitors to the hotel will experience the unique identity of Amsterdam. Everything revolves around the city’s rich history, and that of the building itself. The result is an interior that blends restored historic elements with contemporary, luxurious design.

Baranowitz Kronenberg Architecten worked together with local designers to provide each hotel room with a dash of the Amsterdam flavour. BN Walls wallpaper was chosen for the hotel rooms in this project (a total of 3,500 m2!). The digital wallpaper was developed based on various drawings by Piet Parra. Parra has a unique style characterised by abstract, voluptuous figures with beady eyes and pointed noses. The graphic interpretation behind his design for the rooms in Hotel W was based on Amsterdam’s graffiti and the city’s rich mixture of cultures and ideas. It also reflects the Dutch street mentality. The BN Walls custom wallpaper could be designed in such a way that it fitted seamlessly into the distinctive story of the W Hotel Amsterdam.
